• My crafty, let me show you it.

I should have been sleeping by now, but I figured I’d do something else instead. Something that just might surprise the hell out of one vacationing young lady. There will be crypticness, because the individual in question will likely be reading her flist from this very computer and we don’t need her coming up on that which is yet not to be known. If I suddenly don’t appear online, well, um, uh, that’s why. Because, you know, I may be dead. Or otherwise, ahem, unavailable.

  • Well then there now.

I should update more often. Except that would require we have something to update about. Hmm. Let’s see. In officially less than 12 hours, Jessica (samari76) will be enroute to Ottawa via bus. In 21 hours, I’ll be picking her up at the bus station then running off to Pembroke to consort with the motherling. And then it’s a week of actual proper vacation for one very deserving young lady. If all goes according to plan, she may return to the lesser country significantly more relaxed than she’s leaving it.

In barely related news, the motherling and the aunt came up yesterday for some socializing. We didn’t do a whole lot of anything really. They gave me a hand with some cleaning stuff (translation: fell short of disinfecting the place), so all I have left to do today is actually put things away, and finish up what laundry I was too lazy to do yesterday/the day before. Fun stuffs. I’ll do it later.

I did smack the HR person for Protus IP Solutions yesterday morning. Manager dood was in Montreal last week, and is on vacation this week, apparently. So I still have no idea what the story is. Fired off a couple dozen applications for this or that other job, but no one’s called me back yet aside from Rogers for an outbound sales job. Um, can we say fuck that? So far though nothing all that productive going on over here. Which is just the way I likes it.

  • People suck. Landlords in particular.

Or maybe it’s just a this morning thing. I’d of posted about this yesterday when I first found out about it, but that would require reasonably functional internets. I went to do laundry yesterday morning, at like 4:00 or so (I have no idea why, other than the fact I’m back on my lack of work schedule, officially and for reals), and discovered that the usual $1.5 it costs me to actually clean my clothes wasn’t working for that particular trip. Justifiably irritated, I packed up my shit, went back upstairs, and made a note to call the landlord about it when someone was actually in the office to check the phone. In other words, today. So this morning, hoping against hope I wasn’t the only one who needed to do laundry yesterday and that someone else had called the emergency number about it (I could have lasted another day or two if need be), I went back to check. And sure enough, what’d probably been there yesterday but, you know, we can’t all see when someone’s trying to pull one over on us, was a signal the price had gone up. I found it completely by accident when I decided to try that one again. So now it’s $1.75 to actually get things sorted out that way. Which, roughly translated, means it now costs me a dollar more to do the usual amount of laundry I’ve had to do for the past year and a half or so. On top of the fact my rent’s gone up about $25 in that time. Can we say wtf, boys and girls?

It did prompt a little tiny bit of creativity during the bored that is my waiting for laundry to get done. So as of 5:30 this morning, note2landlord was created. I always figured the logic behind it can’t be too complicated. That, of course, being I’m surely not the only one who’s renting from the clueless. Join if you wanna, or don’t. I’m just tossing it out there. Because occasionally, I do that kinda thing.

  • My headache, let me share it.

Welp, the internet connectivity problems of the past couple days continued yesterday. I spent 3 hours and a bit fighting with it yesterday morning, got it connected, and after making a phone call and flexing my newly reconnected interwebs for a couple hours, I shuffled off to bed. When next I woke up, guess what wasn’t playing nice, yet again? I had no interwebs. The rat bastard modem had dropped the ball for the 5 billionth time. I’d do my usual thing of powercycle, kill the router, plug directly into the modem, and try the web interface. Notta. Then I’d powercycle it again, restart the computer, and I’d have a connection. I’d reconfigure the modem as, yet again, it had forgotten my settings (by the way, another tech support person told me powercycling won’t result in losing my settings–well, shouldn’t, anyway–and as evidenced by the fact it hasn’t before, I’m inclined to believe him), and I’d be connected. For… 10 minutes, or less. So after placing another call in to TekSavvy, and telling them everything I’ve already done to try and fix the problem on this end (trying to factory reset a Speed Touch 516 is queen bitch, just FYI), they agreed with me this modem’s on the borderline of being finished. So, I’ll probably spend most of my time offline except for instances wherein I can get this modem to cooperate with me, at least until I can get my hands on a replacement. I’m told it shouldn’t be longer than a week, but we know how courier companies are. And I *think* they use Purolator, so God only knows. But at least the problem’s been nailed down. Now I’m just afraid to go to sleep lest this damn thing fall sideways on me again. Ah well, I’ve just run out of caffeine so sleep it is. If I suddenly don’t show up online and I’m needed, people have my phone numbers. Those that don’t, cope or ask someone that does.

  • Now that took balls.

How many IT people have threatened to do this? Lord knows I would have if they gave me that kind of access. Every IT person’s ideal revenge is right there. Just goes to show you, your tech support person can be your best friend, or your worst nightmare. Do *not* piss him off.

  • Wherein I again prove to be keeping odd hours. Or something.

I told someone I’d be crashing semi-early. ‘Cuz, y’know, anything’s possible. Except, well, that would mean I’d actually have to be tired before, say, 7:00 AM. Yeah, not happening. What’s happening instead, though, is I’m generally futzing around with semi-slow internets, and considering taking a 2×4 to the side of the head of whoever the hell thought it’d be a good idea to arange it so my various torrent downloads end up, say, killing the rest of my internet going experience. The week hasn’t *all* been technical issues, though. In fact, something I’ve sort of been wanting to happen for a while has officially been, well, made official. Which will most likely prove to be the best part of my unplanned but definitely not unwelcome vacation. In about 9 days, Jessica (samari76) will be getting off the bus in Ottawa and putting up with me for a week and a bit. Yeah, we’ve been talking for maybe 2 months, but we’ve gotten surprisingly close surprisingly fast. Either that, or she’s a real good actress and someone’s hired her to kill me in my sleep. Either way, certain people may have just labeled me officially crazy, seeing as the general attitude of the family I come from’s pretty much online = bad, but this is gonna be an awesome week anyway. So for people expecting availability out of me for that particular week, consider this official warning; I’ve just become significantly less. As usual, important people have phone numbers with which to reach me. Everyone else has IM or email. IM will probably not be answered nearly as often as it has been. But at least you know I’m not ignoring you. Well, except for a few people but they neither have LJ’s nor know of mine so count a whole lot less just by default. And now, I go find me some caffeine. Or attempt to sleep. Or something.

PS: Job status: still questionable. Nothing’s changed since last week, so there shall be no updatey goodness. Cope.
