• Murlynns_view, I blame you.

I was doing perfectly fine without anything from Great Big Sea in my rather sorted collection of things musical. But noooooo… she just *has* to go and play songs like this one (respect teh bandwidth, save before playing). Not that I don’t think every sorted collection of things musical should be without its fair share of drinking songs. But I didn’t *need* anymore… well, okay, so maybe I did. If only because it helps me to blow my bandwidth limitation away before I finally change ISPs. But it sounds so much better to blame her. And I’m all for things sounding good.

PS: Yes, I know, you’ll catch up with me later. But if you’re nice about it there’s coffee in it for you… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • So I’ve decided…

Shortly after cancelling my Sympatico account, I considered how best to take full advantage of the fact Bell will, as of the 27th of this month, no longer be able to directly screw me over. And I’ve decided, I can only do so by beating them to the punch, and promptly screwing them over. So, this morning (that would be on the 5th, naturally, as I’ve not yet learned to start that whole sleeping thing before midnight), I promptly deleted every TV show, movie, trailer, whatnot I have ever downloaded on this connection; approximately a year’s worth of material. And kept the torrents around. You can probably see where this is going. I’m now going to see exactly how long it takes me to download every single one of them again. Because I’m just that awesome. I figure, I have exactly 3 weeks from today/tomorrow, depending on your perspective, to waste 60 GB of bandwidth before they officially cancel me and I can switch over to TekSavvy. I think I can download most of it by then. And for the record, I’ve got a 500 GB hard drive. It was more than 3/4 full. You do the math. I’m too busy being highly amused.

    PS: Fuck you, Bell.

  • It’s a slow news day.

So I shall spend the remainder of it watching baseball until I find something more entertaining to do. Like killing most of the evening at Bayshore. Which will happen momentarily. That didn’t take long.

  • Officially ridding myself of Bell Sympatico.

I keep saying I should, I’ve even threatened to a time or 3. But today I actually did so without thinking about it. Well, okay, I actually *did* think about it. After apparently 3 more times in the span of an hour last night I got the royal boot off teh intarwebz. So I call up ma Bell, and they do their usual song and dance about let us see what we can do to help you first, please. I figure, okay, I’m probably gonna wind up leaving anyway so I might as well give them one more chance to strike out. So they do their thing, and apparently do some tweeking with my phone line (I dunno what the hell they did, the tech made me hang up while he did it). So now my connection issues are supposedly all fixed up. Well, they may very well be, but considering he said he didn’t touch my download capabilities in any way, shape or form and they now come in at under 1MB/S where they used to be 1.5 or thereabouts, I’m still not a happy camper in the slightest. So I call them back, and the guy I get a hold of is decidedly against doing, well, anything to address the problem. Apparently since his line test says I’m at 6 MB/S, it can’t be their problem. Well, uh, it’s not mine, so yes it can. I promptly told him at that point where he could stick his DSL service, and cancelled it. Effective April 27th, Sympatico gets the hell out of my house and is replaced by TekSavvy, who so far has the only drawback of still having to be on part of Bell’s network; Canadian monopolies are so much fun. We’ll see what kind of improvement if any we get out of it at that particular time, but in the meantime, I’m going to very much enjoy wiggling out from under Bell. Who knows, if they’re any good I might switch my phone service over too. They’re cheaper and provide more than Bell does.

PS: “It gets to you the exact same way as it does with us, and besides we have more servers than they do” is not exactly a very decent way of trying to convince a customer not to give the big fuck you to your company, just for the record. Or maybe I just expect people to be able to form an actual argument on a technical level.

  • Just how awesome is James?

Walked some chick through replacing RAM for her system. Now, keep in mind I have no idea what said system looks like internally. Or just how skilled she actually is (she was decent, for the record). Duplicate *that*, I dare ya. Or maybe not.

PS: No, I’m not always that full of myself. but I have absolutely nothing else to comment on and hey, everyone else around here gets a kick out of it. I might as well.

  • 30 seconds ago, I had a thought.

And of course now that I actually have time to take it somewhere, it has escaped me. This is what happens when they don’t throw calls at me. I got nothin’.

  • I’m awake. Somehow.

I have no idea how I managed to pull that off. Nor do I have any idea how I managed to drag my ass to work this morning. I got enough sleep, I just didn’t want to get up. No big surprise for me lately; stay up ’til 4 for one weekend and my sleep routine goes straight to hell for a week and a half. Not that I’m complaining, mind you–some of said time spent throwing my sleep routine off balance was spent in conversation with sheyrena, so it’s all good. I just have to learn not to do that to such extremes. At least until I can get around to booking my week or so off. Eh, I’ll learn that later. Keeping odd hours is what I do. Isn’t that why they invented coffee?

  • Are you disturbingly profound or profoundly disturbing?

    You Are Disturbingly Profound

You’re contemplative, thoughtful, and very intense.
Taking time to figure out the meaning of life is a priority for you.
Because you’re so introspective, you often react in ways that surprise people.
No one can really understand how you are on the inside… and that disturbs them.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a quiz call me intense. Or anyone/thing. A little weird but I’m told that’s a good thing.

  • New year, new season, same old result?

I’m both a hockey fanatic and a baseball fanatic, and have no problem admitting to both of them. Granted, my well documented hockey followings were rather written off significantly earlier in the season, while they were still royally stinking it up. Still, I keep threatening to get on the baseball blogging bandwagon at some point and I figure, you know, now’s as good a time as any. Unfortunately, they don’t seem to agree with me; this is supposed to be opening day for the only Canadian team left in the MLB, and they’re currently in a rain delay. Not that outside my window is any better at the moment. I’m currently home from work anyway, for completely unrelated reasons (hint: I need to work on my sleep schedule), and until 5 minutes ago forgot that today was opening day. I’m such a fan, I know. But it’s been corrected now, and as soon as that game actually starts, it will be corrected for good. Sadly I still get to miss tomorrow’s, wednesday’s, and thursday’s games. But eh, I work ’til 10. Unless they play on the west coast I’m not gonna be watching much baseball this year. I’ve accepted and moved on. I’ll bitch about it in full come September. For now though, rain delay means halfway entertaining show.

  • Someone agrees with me.

So the other day I made vague mention to the fact there be ridiculously insane parental units among us, some of whom will apparently lean entirely way too much on religion for, like, everything. Including curing their kid of a treatable disease. Instead of, you know, doing the sensible thing and taking said kid to a doctor. I do recall making some vague mention of their other children being removed if something like that happened on *this* side of the border. And apparently, for perhaps the second time this year, someone agrees with me. Of course they still have yet to actually be charged, but I have this sneaking suspicion even though it’s not really going to either be confirmed or denied until about 3 days after it happens, they’re going to be. At the very least with some kind of negligence. So why am I keeping such a close eye on this story? Because sadly, they don’t allow us to shoot one stupid person every Wednesday. So I shall have to settle for mocking them when I’m presented with new ammunition with which to do so instead. It’s rough, but whatcha gonna do?

PS: It’s been alternating between freezing rain and snow for most of the morning so far. Freezing rain. And snow. In what practically is the beginning of April. WTF? Die in a fire, global warming.
