• Two things you should never mix in an entry: politics and religion.

Of course, since when do I do things I *should*? It’s actually something I try not to do. More fun that way.

Anarchy in the Canadian parliament? Who knew? Only real difference between today and any other typical day at the head of our country, the house speaker actually, you know, said something. See? Put that many people in charge, you go nowhere. No wait, sorry. Put Steven Harper in charge and you go nowhere. My mistake.

I guess the church is keeping alcohol and cigarettes on its ever expanding list of sins, and now the british government’s decided to come up with its own. So there’s now a sin tax on alcohol and cigarettes. Brilliant. Its days like this when I’m kinda glad I live in Canada, where on the rare occasion I do actually drink, it’s not costing me my first born.

And an aside: people of the USA, that crapola you call beer is not, in fact, actually beer. The sooner you realize it’s meerly a cheap, watered-down substitute, the easier it’ll be on you. I know, it stings. But if the average person on that side of the border didn’t already have a fragile ego…

  • Happy birthday, funblindsinger!

So she doesn’t bother with her LJ anymore and has probably never been to mine. I can still say so. And that I’ve said it now when it’s not for another 2 days means 1: she has that much time to do either or, and 2: I don’t get to feel like an ass for forgetting! I should probably call her about then, but that, I’ll probably forget to do. Somebody remind me.

  • I am a zombie.

I’m supposed to be off at 10. I got off at midnight. I got home at 1. I fell in bed just before 2. I is whiped.

  • Yeah, this job’s way too easy.

“This diagnostic says it’s broken. Here, let me replace it for you.” That’s been the motto of the day for me. I’ve only had one call where I actually had to think, and that was only in the minor aspect of figuring out how best to walk the guy on my phone through windows Update. fortunately he was on dialup and didn’t have two phone lines, so that was cut short. But still. It’s almost 5:00. I get off lunch (supper?) at quarter to 6 or so. I get off work at 10 or so. I’m gonna be dead tonight…

    ,
  • Should I still be tired?

My mind says no, but my body says hell yes. I got in just after 11 last night and was in bed by midnight, only finally crawling out of bed for good about 25 minutes ago. This just may be a job for extra caffeine. Going to work today is likely gonna suck…

One down side to doing things the illegal way: it takes bloody well forever. Example: I’ve been trying to download the second season of Andromeda for the past, oh… 6 months or so. And getting freakin’ nowhere. Either I can’t play the video, or no one’s seeding the torrent I’ve just so happened to grab. And of course, since 12 hours out of my day are spent either at work or getting to and from, the other 7 or 8 sleeping, it doesn’t give me much time anymore to fight with it. So I suspect a good chunk of the 3 day weekend I’m entitled to (tomorrow’s my Friday, yay!) will be spent in a rather heated argument between myself and the illegal downloading community as a whole. And dammit I intend to win that argument. ๐Ÿ˜›

It’s a good thing I find hardware troubleshooting, 98% of the time, to be incredibly, incredibly easy. Because, and several people are in agreement with me on this one, we are severely undertrained for doing so. That’s what happens I guess when you take people who’ve been doing software troubleshooting for the better part of a year plus and fire ’em into the hardware department after a week’s crash course. I am now taking job recommendations.

  • And I work, per chance to stay awake.

I was right, twice. Rightness number 1: I am not entirely interested in dealing with hardware support; very little thought actually involved, in most cases. rightness number 2: it’s subsequently putting me to sleep. Give me a week or two. I’ll coast through it like nothing else. And then I’ll be bored. And a bored James is never a good thing.

  • International woops day, perhaps?

Idiots a-plenty. And as I’ve often maintained, they will systematically be eliminated from the gene pool. Idiot number 1: New York City pimpinator. Bad idea: being caught in the middle of a prostitution ring with topic of things like, you know, elections in the wind. On behalf of Canadians everywhere, if that’s what the US gets to vote for, I’m sorry.

Windows Vista’s been flopping since day 1, and already Microsoft’s got its eye on the rather creatively named Windows 7. So do the antitrust people from Europe. What ever happened to letting the first failed experiment be forgotten first? Guess not.

And the media states the obvious again, again making it official. People depend way too much on wireless crapola. Said it before, either over IM or in person, step away from the crackberry. I’ll freely admit, I carry my cell phone around with me; it’s in my pocket right now. Primarily though, it serves 2 purposes. If I’m expecting an important phone call, or if I need to figure out exactly why in hell the bus is 10 minutes late *this* time. One of these days I’ll post a general communication with me policy, maybe. But it stands to reason if I want to hear from you at a given time, you’ll have means to get a hold of me at a given time. If it’s a life or death emergency and you’re not pretty much right in Ottawa, call someone else. Not much I can do for ya here anyway.

    *****************

I have just received, speaking of way too much communication, 3 emails in the span of 10 minutes at my work address. None of them have anything to do with me, and 1 is an opening for a bilingual L2 position. I don’t speak French. I don’t choose to speak French. I am now mildly irritated.

  • Picture if you will…

A blind guy gets to spend an hour and a half sitting through the setup of a TV tuner. Now, keep in mind this is an entirely visual process. How likely would you guess it’d be that I stayed awake?

  • In case I’ve not said it yet, I have no interest in being a hardware tech.

So how I’m managing to stay awake during this training is completely and utterly beyond me. But apparently, I am. Looky that. The sooner this training’s over (5:00 can’t come soon enough!), the better.

    *****************

I had links for posting and ranting about. In a fit of absolute moronicness, I have apparently closed the windows. Go me.

    411. Freaking. Centimeters. Of. Snow. Ohmygodwhatthefuck. 51 centimeters in 48 hours. And clefurgey, for your americanized brain’s processing consumption, that works out to roughly 2 feet in that particular time span. Brutal. Snowbanks are half my size and I ain’t short. Double brutal. Somebody hates me.

    *****************

Do either brucetola or tazcat want to tell me why in the hell it costs 400000000 dollars to throw a bunch of beatles songs on ITunes? There are immortal and practically legendary bands in the *current* music industry who don’t charge half that. Oh wait, it’s only Paul. He’s been senile forever. Never mind.

    *****************

We’re supposedly going over Windows Media Center, and the whole shpeel about TV tuner cards. Me personally? I’m trying to stay awake. Somebody amuse me.

  • I was right.

It would seem my hand has stopped that wicked awesome little tingling thing it’d been doing for most of the day. And I’m still breathing so clearly it wasn’t anything worth being all concerned over. So now it’s back to your regularly scheduled random crap from me. In the morning.
